Outlook 2008: Tell Us What You Think

Most financial magazines and institutions have released their 2008 outlook pieces, digesting every segment of the economy and suggesting where to put your money in the coming year.  We would like to invite readers of the Ticker Sense blog to now tell us how they feel after having read their fill of the professional outlooks.  If you are interested, simply follow the link below and fill out the few brief questions to participate.

Weekend Survey: The Results Are In

The polling is closed and the results of the weekend survey have been tallied.  We calculated the percentage of total responses that fell into each category and were surprised at the bullish results.  According to our readers a new record high in the S&P isn't far away, although the Ticker Sense Blogger Sentiment Poll seems to contradict that feeling.

Pitcher Sense?

After hearing that George Gilder and Brian Hunter would be starting new hedge funds and the Blackstone Group would be going public, we asked Ticker Sense readers which would be the best investment.  Our readers are not too optimistic for any of the three.  A couple weeks worth of voting resulted in baseball cards getting the most amount of votes by a pretty wide margin.  Maybe we should start up Pitcher Sense.

Investors Expecting Things To Calm Down

Based on the results of last week's poll where we asked readers where they thought the S&P would be trading 30 days from now, the majority of us believe we will remain between the lows of March and the highs of February (37% believe we will be higher than current levels but below the highs, while 34% think the market will go down, but remain above the lows we saw earlier this month).

Given the market's tendency to confound the maximum amount of people and the fact that most of us are looking for minimal gains or losses, we would not be surprised to see a big move up or down.

Where Will the S&P 500 be in 30 Days?

Yesterday we asked readers where they thought the S&P 500 would be 30 days from now.  After 234 votes since yesterday afternoon, 41% believe the S&P 500 will be higher than 1,405 in 30 days.  Thanks to a nice gain in pre-market futures, it looks as if they're getting a head start.  The next highest vote count, however, came from the bearish camp that believes we'll be lower than the low made on March 5th.  See results below:

Weekend Poll -- Thoughts on the Yield Curve

The yield on the 10-Year US Treasury Note is currently 4.694% while the yield on the 2-Year Treasury Note is 4.831%.  We're wondering from you, our readers, whether or not you think this yield curve will continue to be inverted by the end of 2007.  Please take a second to answer the poll question below and we'll publish the results next week.

Results of Rate Cut Poll

Earlier in the week, we asked readers if or when they thought the Fed would cut interest rates.  As the results of the poll below show, almost exactly half of our readers didn't think the Fed would cut rates from now through December of this year.  The rest of the results were spread pretty evenly, but the overall indication is that readers do not expect a rate cut anytime soon.
