DJIA = 10888, Friday 18th of August close.

11,088.03

Two editorial comments: one, in the short run, a stock or an index are both basically stationary processes. Like DH above, I am guessing the close. Unlike DH, I am guessing decimal points, which brings me to two: with guessing on a public comments thread, assuming that the actual prize involved is worth less to the participants than the glory of being closest in any given week, the guesses themselves are part of the game. Had DH picked the to-the-decimal close, I would have picked one-one-hudredth higher, since the next-highest guess is 1.3% away, which the next-lowest is just 27 bps short.

Obviously, though, I care less about maximizing my probability of glory than I do about penning my screed here, or I'd have waited 'til 6:20 or so Monday (I'm on Pacific) before making the guess.
